How to Digitise documents and photos - Gadgets Now Posted: 24 Apr 2020 12:08 AM PDT Right now, digital versions of official government documents—like the Aadhaar card, driving license, vehicle registration, etc—are recognised only when presented via an official medium like the DigiLocker app. Still, creating digital copies of important documents is a good practise to follow. It can prove to be useful in case the physical copy gets misplaced or, worse, permanently damaged. And when you are done digitising your marksheets, class notes, certificates, bills and floor plans, take some time out to scan all your old photo albums for posterity. 1) Documents There are many mobile apps available for scanning physical documents. But the best ones for the job are CamScanner and Microsoft Office Lens. Both do an excellent job of taking snapshots of documents; they automatically detect the paper edges to crop out the background and let you choose from various colour filters to enhance the brightness and contrast to improve text legibility. You also have the option to scan multiple pages of a document and save it as a single file in PDF format. If required, you can also save the scan in image (JPG) format. However, there are a few differences as well. Unlike Office Lens, CamScanner's free version adds a watermark (in the bottom corner of the page) and does not let you take high-resolution snapshots. Office Lens also lets you sign in with your Microsoft account and save the files directly to your OneDrive cloud account. CamScanner: Android, iOS Microsoft Office Lens Android, iOS Tip: Save two digital copies – one colour and a monochrome one. The colour is for your record only. Only share the B&W version with trusted people. This reduces the chances of anybody misusing a colour scan. 2) BUSINESS CARDS While both apps will also scan business cards, they will not use optical character recognition (OCR) to extract the text and put into their respective fields like name, phone number, address, designation, etc. For this, you can use CamCard—developers of CamScanner—to automate this task for you. The free version lets you scan up to 200 business cards and its paid version will also let you import the scanned details into Outlook, Salesforce and Excel. A nifty feature is its multi-mode where it lets you click pictures of all the business cards at one go and review the details after. Fair warning: During our trials with the app, we found that the OCR is not 100 percent accurate. You will need to review the text after the scans are complete to weed out errors. CamCard: Android, iOS Some important things to keep in mind: - Storage: After you have scanned your documents, you should save a copy on your computer as well as in a secure cloud storage account. Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive are popular and secure storage services. - Encryption: Encrypt the documents on your hard drive before uploading them to these services. In case of a breach, your encrypted data will provide an added layer of security from hacking attempts. In both cases, you will need to keep them in an encrypted form to make it very difficult for anybody to gain access to them. You can use a service like Cryptomator (cryptomator.org) which lets you encrypt the digital documents on your hard drive and uploads them to a separate folder in your Dropbox and Google Drive account. Alternatively, you can use Boxcryptor (boxcryptor.com) as well. - Sharing: Never share documents via instant messengers like WhatsApp and Telegram. You may use an email service provider—like Gmail and ProtonMail—that lets you prevent the recipient from editing the document and, more importantly, set an expiration date to the email. 3) PHOTOGRAPHS You can use a digital camera to capture a high-quality image of the original. However, this method will require a tripod, even lighting and an image-editing software to crop and touch-up the photos to your preference. The best and most convenient option is Google's PhotoScan for Android and iOS devices. You just have to follow the instructions to scan a photograph and let the app adjust the brightness-contrast to produce a glare-free result. For best results, make sure you place the photograph on flat surface, away from direct sunlight or indoor lighting and avoid casting a shadow over the print. Results are high-resolution, which can be transferred to your computer and to your preferred cloud storage account. Android, iOS

Last year, the company released a phone with the same price, the AX5s. In a statement, OPPO Australia said the A52 had a 5000mAh battery, a 1080p Neo-Display screen and an AI quad camera with a wide-angle set-up for what it claimed was "picture-perfect photo and videos." The device has 4Gb of memory and 64GB of storage, with a SD-card slot that can take up a card of up to 256GB. Michael Tran, the managing director for the company in Australia, said: "The A52 is the latest device to join OPPO's A-series, giving Aussies a quality smartphone at an affordable price, with all the features users want in a phone. "At OPPO we put the user first and the A52 is an extension of this, providing an immersive user experience like no other." "Users can enjoy a high-quality picture display that can adjust to certain light scenarios, a long-lasting battery and AI quad camera setup with video stability so users can shoot on the go. "Premium doesn't have to be pricey and the A52 is a perfect example of this." The A52 has a 90.5% screen to body ratio and has a feature known as eye care mode to filter out blue light. It has a headphone jack and a USB-C charger. The screen is 6.5 inches and has an embedded front camera with the left and right bezels being 1.73mm in width. It has a Qualcomm SDM665 processor. The display features Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon technology which makes for a sharp picture. An 8MP front camera and a main AI quad cam set-up are present, comprising a 12MP main camera along with a 8MP Ultra Wide Angle Lens. It comes in two colours, Twilight Black and Stream White. The device will be available on pre-order at JB HiFI from today (30 April). It is claimed to charge from zero to 50% in 45 minutes due to its 18W fast charge. The fingerprint lock is on the side of the device. Sound is through dual stereo speakers. The phone runs Color OS 7.1, OPPO's customised version of Android and also features anti-shake video performance, due to electronic image stabilisation. It will go on sale on 11 May at JB HiFi, Officeworks, Kogan, Bing Lee, The Good Guys, MobileCiti and Woolworths Mobile.
