Preventing impossible game levels using cryptography - POP TIMES UK Preventing impossible game levels using cryptography - POP TIMES UK Posted: 13 Sep 2020 04:00 PM PDT You and your good buddy, Steve Steveington, have almost finished work on your company's new video game. It's a banal 2-D platformer in which you run from left to right and collect coins or rings or some other kind of doodad. At the end you rescue a Princess or save a city or whatever, who cares, the player has already given you their money and you don't do refunds. You've been creating your mediocrepiece in your offices in the 19th Century Literature section of the San Francisco Public Library, the same birthplace as all your previous companies ( start here and work forwards to catch up ). The library is currently closed to the general public because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but you've reached an understanding with the security guard whereby he doesn'...

Harry Dunn's parents to meet Anne Sacoolas as immunity row continues - The Guardian Harry Dunn's parents to meet Anne Sacoolas as immunity row continues - The Guardian Posted: 13 Oct 2019 06:58 AM PDT Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US intelligence official who was involved in the road collision that killed 19-year-old Harry Dunn, has agreed to meet with his grieving parents and cooperate with a British police inquiry. But amid continuing questions over her right to diplomatic immunity, it is not clear if she will return to the UK to fulfil a promise to answer police questions about her role in the car crash. The reversal of position on a meeting appears to have come after lawyers specialising in diplomatic immunity started to advise Dunn's parents last week, leading them to say they would pursue Sacoolas in the US courts for a civil claim. Mark Stephens, one of the legal specialists advising the parents, told the Guar...

Texas detective says the data encryption of modern Android phones is superior to iPhones - XDA Developers

Texas detective says the data encryption of modern Android phones is superior to iPhones - XDA Developers Texas detective says the data encryption of modern Android phones is superior to iPhones - XDA Developers Posted: 30 Jan 2020 12:00 AM PST The US government has been trying to pressure companies like Apple to create a backdoor in its smartphones to help law enforcement agencies access encrypted data when needed. Such a backdoor could help agencies gather crucial information about a detainee, which can then be used as evidence in a court of law. However, critics have argued that giving the government easy access to smartphone data defeats the entire purpose of encrypting it in the first place. Apple, among other companies, has refused to cooperate so far. But a recent report from Vice claims that the government has been doing a decent job of cracking smartphone encryption even without their help when it comes to most iPhones. Andro...

How can you protect yourself without a secure phone? - Somag News How can you protect yourself without a secure phone? - Somag News Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:04 AM PDT If you follow the news of the technological world, you have certainly been concerned, at some point, with data theft or fraud scheme directed at smartphones. The safest devices in the world can certainly protect you, but be aware that, for that, you will have to pay amounts considered exorbitant by a large part of the population: from R $ 10,000 to more than US $ 5 million, like the company's devices Israeli CommuniTake, used by politicians and officials of the United Nations (UN). Such devices generally have state-of-the-art encryption systems and do not store data on servers or enable voice and video transmission. They also carry self-destruct messaging mechanisms and can clear all the information they contain. For everything to continue to work, monthly fees are usua...

How to enable end-to-end encryption for the Nextcloud app - TechRepublic

How to enable end-to-end encryption for the Nextcloud app - TechRepublic How to enable end-to-end encryption for the Nextcloud app - TechRepublic Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:00 AM PDT Learn how you can enable the new Nextcloud end-to-end encryption. Must-read cloud The developers of the Nextcloud open source on-premise cloud solution have created a really amazing encryption setup between the latest desktop client (version 3.x) and the newest release of their server solution (version 19). This end-to-end encryption method makes it such that encrypted files are only available to the Nextcloud desktop, and mobile applications and are not accessible via the server. In other words, you encrypt a file that exists on the server from the client app. Once you've encrypted the file, it will no longer be accessible on the server, but it will remain available (all the while encrypted) on any client application you have connected to your acco...

Tutanota Premium Review - PCMag

Tutanota Premium Review - PCMag Tutanota Premium Review - PCMag Posted: 24 Feb 2021 12:55 PM PST Back when email was new, sending a message was about as private as mailing a missive on a picture postcard. Anybody who saw an email go by could read it, and even change it. Modern email systems at least use basic HTTPS encryption, but for truly private communication you need a dedicated email encryption system. Used by millions, Tutanota is one such system, and its designers place an admirable emphasis on security. You can use Tutanota for free if you're willing to accept a few limitations. The free edition lets you send and receive all the secure messages you want, and it includes a secure calendar. Searching encrypted email is limited—with the free edition you can only search messages up to a month old. Paying the 12€ per year subscription ($14.60 as of this writing) removes that search limitation, lets you have multiple calendars, and adds...

What you need to know about encryption on your phone - CNET

What you need to know about encryption on your phone - CNET What you need to know about encryption on your phone - CNET Posted: 10 Mar 2016 12:00 AM PST Jason Cipriani/CNET The heated and very public confrontation between the FBI and Apple has spurred a lot of talk about encryption, the technology that shields data on phones and other gadgets. The feds are pushing Apple to find a way to prevent an iPhone 5C from erasing itself after 10 successive incorrect guesses at the passcode. The user of that phone, San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook, used a PIN code to secure his device, and without bypassing that code, the data stored on it is unreadable, thanks to encryption. If Apple were to disable the auto-erase feature, the FBI could then connect the iPhone to a computer and quickly and repeatedly attempt to guess the passcode -- a technique commonly referred to as a brute force attack -- until the device is unlocked. Should the FBI preva...
